Travel can be exhilarating—but it can also leave your body feeling dry, restless, and off-balance.

Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, offers simple yet powerful practices to keep you grounded, hydrated, and calm on the move.
Ayurvedic Tips for Travelling
Rehydration Drink
Perfect for flights/trains, any travelling really, and hot summer days:
· 1 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
· 10 drops fresh lime juice
· ¼ tsp mineral salt
Add to an empty bottle. After security, fill with warm (not boiling) water—very hot water changes honey’s natural enzymes and prana, reducing its healing qualities. Sip slowly to maintain hydration and balance your minerals.
Bring Your Own Snacks/Food
Keep vata (air & space elements) grounded with nourishing bites:
· Use a thermos for warm, home-cooked food—it’s worth the effort, your digestion will thank you
· Dates
· Nuts – chew well!
· Seasonal fruit
· Homemade treats
· Herbal tea bags for comfort on the go
Tip: Some airports have “quiet zones.” They’re often nearly empty and blissfully peaceful—find one and rest. Aaaaahhh.
If possible, avoid eating on the plane or train, as this can disturb your agni (digestive fire). Eat after you land or arrive, and take a few slow, conscious breaths before your meal.
Abhyanga & Oils - Ayurvedic massage
Before departure and upon arrival, do a gentle oil massage (abhyanga) to balance all doshas. This is your ultimate nervous system regulation!
· Sesame oil (warming, grounding)
· Coconut, olive oil (cooling)
· Almond, sunflower (neutral)
· Dhanwantaram oil – ayurvedic formula to reduce all three doshas
· Oil your nostrils, ears, and ideally use nasya oil in each nostril while travelling ~ especially with hours of recycled, air-conditioned air circulating
· Use a neti pot if you have one
Enhance Your Sadhana (spiritual practice)
Travel offers a quiet space to deepen your spiritual practice and stay connected to your inner self:
· Chant mantras to centre your mind and uplift your energy· Dates
· Listen to mantras and ragas to stay calm
· Short meditation sessions of 3-5 minutes, with eyes open or closed
· Cultivate Sakshi Bhav – the feeling of being a witness
· Practice Pranayama like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) to balance your doshas
· Short meditation sessions of 3-5 minutes, with eyes open or closed
On Arrival
· Gentle movement, stretch, Yin Yoga, or simply rest in Viparita Karani (legs up the wall) for 5–10 minutes to restore circulation.
· Practice Yoga Nidra for deep relaxation
· If crossing time zones, adjust to the local clock during your journey. Upon arrival, reset your body by standing outside barefoot at sunrise and sunset for 5 minutes, breathing deeply with the light and surroundings.
